How We Selected the Supreme Court Cases

Building on the success of the National Constitution Center’s Interactive Constitution, we asked a scholarly pair representing diverse constitutional perspectives—Caroline Fredrickson and Ilan Wurman—to select the most influential Supreme Court cases in American history.  For each landmark case, the team wrote a joint statement explaining its constitutional significance and selected excerpts capturing the Court’s reasoning.  For inclusion in the Supreme Court Cases Library, both scholars had to agree on the source, the explanatory statement, and the excerpt.  The Supreme Court Cases Library also includes landmark cases curated by the National Constitution Center team.
